Gawler East Link Road Community Consultation
At its meeting held on 8 November 2016 the Council considered a report on the Gawler East Link Road (GELR) and concluded a final decision on its preferred alignment. At that time the Council resolved to endorse the ‘Revised Eckerman Avenue Alignment’ as its preferred route for this roadway.
This road, once constructed will play an integral part in servicing both the existing and future communities of Gawler East development zone and beyond, as well as reduce the impact of traffic generated from growth in our region on the Gawler Town Centre. It will also allow Council to meet its long term strategic objective of a future direct extension of the Link Road to the intersection of Tiver Road/Main North Road.
Council is currently in the process of collating all of the conceptual design, investigatory work and community consultation outcomes undertaken as part of its alignment review for its preferred alignment of the GELR to hand over the project’s management to the State Government’s Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI). This will allow DPTI to advance the project with further planning and design work, prepare a community engagement plan, consider land acquisition requirements (including the necessary engagement with impacted property owners), finalise a procurement methodology and prepare for management of its construction.
