Busking in Gawler streets
Gawler Council have endorsed a Busking Policy and have taken out special public liability insurance to attract buskers to the Town. This outcome has made it easier for buskers to perform and entertain on council owned land without risk to property, any compromises in public safety or adverse impacts on local traders, residents or pedestrians. The Policy will further consolidate Gawler as a creative arts and culture centre.
The Busking Policy and public liberty insurance will help to create a sense of vibrancy and contribute to the colour and life of Gawler.
On street entertainment can lead to increased foot traffic and greater retail opportunities for local business. The Busking Policy will support Council’s commitment to transform the town centre into a lively and energetic ‘village’ precinct, showcasing the true and local character of Gawler.
Busking permit application forms can be accessed here or obtained from the Infrastructure and Environmental Services office on the corner of High Street and Calton Road, Gawler (Centrelink Building).
Permit applications must be lodged in person at the Infrastructure and Environmental Services office with copies of all the required documentation including:
· Current police check
· Photo Identification (drivers licence, passport, student ID Card)
· If applicable a certificate of currency of public liability insurance to the value of 10 million dollars
Permit applicants must read and agree to comply with the requirements of Council’s Busking Policy which is available here or by contacting Councils Compliance Officer on the number below. Permits are issued for a 12 month period and a $52.50 application fee applies.
Please note, busking permits are not issued on the spot and normally take up to 24 to 48 hours to process once your application has been received at the Infrastructure and Environmental Services office.
Council provides public liability insurance for up to 15 busking permits annually. Once 15 permits have been issued in any given financial year applicants over and above this amount will need to provide their own public liability insurance to the value of 10 million dollars.
