Animal Management Plan 2012-2017
Council is currently developing it's Animal Management Plan. The Dog and Cat Management Act requires Councils in South Australia to prepare a plan every five years. Councils Plan must cover dogs and cats however it can also include other types of animals (e.g. feral pigeons or other pests) that are having a significant impact. Gawler’s Animal Management Plan 2012-2017 will replace the 2007 Dog and Cat Management Plan. The Plan covers a wide variety of animal management issues.
As part of the process community engagement was undertaken between the 5th of February and the 5th of March 2014 to gather feedback on the draft Plan. Feedback on the plan was possible by:
· Completing an online survey
· Meeting with Council staff
· Making a written submission
· Attendance at an Animal Management Plan workshop
The consultation was well received by the community and Council would like to thank all those who participated in the process.
The feedback received was considered and a report was provided to Council in April 2014 with a summary of the community feedback and a modified draft Animal Management Plan for Council adoption. Council adopted the Plan at the April 2014 Council meeting which has now been presented to the Dog and Cat Management Board for approval.
